From the small city of Redmond, Washington, Nick Roels has played with countless trios, combos, jazz ensembles, wind symphonies, and symphony orchestras from across the world, at only 20 years old. Currently attending the University of North Texas for Jazz Studies, Nick Roels started playing drums at the age of 13, making his start in his middle school's jazz ensemble. After learning from some of the best percussionists and jazz drummers in the world, Nick Roels has evolved into a jazz, rock, pop, folk, and funk drummer who is starting to make a name for himself. Currently working with his own trio, combo, and big band, as well as many groups at the University of North Texas, his biggest influences include Jeff Hamilton, Ulysses Owens Jr., John Riley, and Peter Erskine for their originality, creativity, and leadership in the art of jazz drumming.
In addition to drumming, Roels also composes and arranges music for jazz combos, big bands, wind symphonies, pep bands, marching bands, and symphony orchestras. While growing an everlasting resume, Roels hopes to pursue his career and to further his education by getting his Masters in Jazz Studies and Film Composition.
