Since his sophomore year of high school, Sam knew he was destined to be a professional drummer. As a part of American Music Abroad (2004) he was chosen to lead a percussion ensemble (5 members) across Europe. Starting in 2006, Sam studied music at the University of Rochester where he pulled talent from both the River Campus and Eastman Conservatory to form various projects and recordings, and served as principal drummer for the U of R Jazz Ensemble. It was during his time in Rochester that Sam honed his skills as a versatile drummer performing reggae, jazz, hip hop, rock, and soul music. After graduating in 2010, he joined forces with the Scott Decarlo Band, who has gone on to record in Nashville, TN. One year later Sam became a founding member of the rock band Madison Rising. Since 2011 Madison Rising has toured the country and beyond (Japan and South Korea), and released a rock version of the Star Spangled Banner that went viral. The band has shared the stage with Shinedown, Aerosmith, Godsmack, Lynrd Skynrd, Weezer and Chris Cornell, at venues such as Dallas Cowboys Stadium, Charm City Festival, Mohegan Sun and Sturgis Bike Rally. Sam has also worked with hardcore band Ogre from NJ, showing that he can jump from the jazz world to the rock/metal world with ease. He has produced recordings in hip hop, folk, rock, and jazz, including “Band Practice” a jam/rock project involving former Spin Doctors guitarist Anthony Krizan. Most recently, Sam took on the role of performer and producer with his release of “Stained Glass and Technicolor Grooves”, featuring renowned jazz pianist Misha Piatigorsky. Sam’s ability to be versatile and fit into almost any genre of music is what makes him a great asset.
